MODERN SLAVERY

Work Work Work...that's all I hear these days. He wakes up as early as 4am getting set for work and arrives at night, not earlier than 11pm everyday. My husband, Jude now gives all his attention to his work at the expense of us, his wife and children. Yes, he is the best husband any woman can have and he sure works very hard to satisfy us but I still need him present at home, we need him.  Since he got a job with this new company...we lost him. Even at home, he is thinking of work on his table at the office. My children keep asking "where is daddy?"

Before daddy comes in, they are already asleep and before they wake up, he is off to work...for me that is still up, if I touch him this way or that way...he complains, "honey I am very tired" so for weeks, we hardly make love. Instead, he would bring out files and continue working till about 2am...
Come to think of it, yes, the pay is better than what he used to earn and I am happy for that...but I don't want him away all day and all night, everyday. I have been bearing this for the past six months and I am writing now because he is now on admission due to high blood pressure.
This is the third admission in 2 months. Doctors say he needs rest.

Bondedhome Counsellors, I had to cut the long story short. Only if Jude and all of us who do white collar jobs look inward and put all those hours, resources, abilities and potentials into our own jobs, our own creations; by now, we would all be smiling to the bank in our own little ways.

Deut 28:12 The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand.

Note: This verse did not say and to bless the work of your Masters hand.

This is a statistic I drew up from my white collar sojourn so far..I do 9hrs daily, 54hrs weekly, 234hrs in a month, 2802 hrs in a year and now 14,040hrs in 5yrs. Now take a second and calculate yours. Done? Now imagine if you have put  all those hours into your own business? Wouldn't it have yielded? Don't get me wrong. I know some people who are very comfortable with their white-collar income...this may not be your article...but don't forget, "you can't be richer than your boss". The richest men and women are those who run their own businesses.
Instead of wallowing reluctantly in a company that is not currently rewarding you commensurately, has no health system for you and your family, operate a miserly packaged pension scheme, that is if there is any at all...and would gladly sack you on any slightest error...and stand the risk of incessant high blood pressure...why don't you think of liberating yourself.

What do you think?
Is she making a point?
Are you satisfied with your work statistics viz a viz your achievements?

  2. Maybe we should add this component to the statistics- divide the amount you are paid by the number of of hours you work in a month, that should give you what you are worth per hour. Or better still what your boss thinks you are worth

  6. Let's not be too fast to conclude or condemn white collar jobs or maybe counting it as a waste of time because if am asked to say I will tell you most of our directors once worked under someone but on the other hand we must not look for the over time demanding jobs so as to maintain and keep up our responsibility as husbands, fathers, mothers and wives. let's set priorities .Finally, Everybody must not be a boss cause all fingers are not equal.

Hmmmm, this is very useful piece. Most people do jobs they detest buh bcos of the economy, they can't walk away just like that. Also when u check the cost of starting a business in Nigeria today. Uld know its not that ez

My candid take on this is: many success stories started from ground zero. That said, Not everyone gets that lucky in business! May God help us all! The hustle continues! Joshe El-Mero @merotiwon1

"Rlch Men at d Castle poor Men at d gate" l wonda what wil be d fate of our young generation n children, if fathers n mothers continu to negelct there childrn. It wil increase illitrace, uneducated graduates and so many social vices. There is a great need for enterprenur awerenss, strategically.

  15. As for me, am not against a self established business. But before we leave our basic salary jobs for such, we shud make sure we have a solid and good overview of the very business plan so as to avoid unnecessary bad credit or bankrupt at last. As for the woman whose husband is nt always around, I advice her to make do with the little time she can get frm the husband, cos the man can't just quit working to please the family. Not working at all aint good at all. Chibisluv
