Celebrations have become a vital part of our lives as people celebrate for
all kinds of reasons. Once there is an interpretation connoting satisfaction
and a financial calculation that shows some comfortable digits, why not? A
party or an elaborate show of gratitude to God would not be out of place.
In a taxi during the week, I overheard two young men speaking one of our
three major languages in a region where its not lingua franca, but thank God,
yours sincerely is fluent in two or more Nigerian languages...they complained
of how this year has not been such a great year for them and how they cannot go
to the village without a car, without enough cash to show that they have done
well within the year, one of them stated how his parents would be expecting him
to bring one of his younger one over and business has been very bad...the
complain kept rolling...
they even said, it is risky for one to go home these
days with just sufficient cash, that you need extra, infact excess cash because
you never can tell when subsidy would be yanked off and finally with a
determined face, one said he has decided that " anyone who leaves his
wallet carelessly may not find his pocket again, anyone who doesnt park well
may not find his car anymore"...instead of celebrating a broke xmas, he
would do whatever needs to be done within this short period. On hearing this, i
quickly checked my wallet to be sure it was still on me.
Contrary to the real reason of the season, many people have turned it into a
show of wealth, whether ill-gotten or not. This syndrome ripples into
desperation among the non-capable ones who have also refused to cut their coat
according to their cloth. They feel oppressed and become determined to go any
length to become undepressed and become capable of rubbing shoulders with the supposed successful ones. Thus young men start stealing
from people, young girls and ladies fall cheaper just to get paid after some
sexual transactions among other shocking vices. All these would simply still pass as occurrences in the festive mood, it is allowed, it is a normal thing.
The society seems to have adopted show-off as a replacement to celebration
of the birth of Christ. Please evaluate your knowledge and understanding of
Christmas and be sure you are celebrating rightly and for the right reasons. Is Christmas a time to show how successful your year was and rob it deep on others?
is it a time that people should take to crime just to meet up ?
What is Christmas to you ?
How should we go about the celebrations?
The floor is now open
Hmmm. Celebrating Christmas desperately. Hypocrites are the ones doing all these. Nice one, bondedhome.
ReplyDeleteI thank you, the admin of bondedhome for dis vital ubdate. Xmass is a moment of joy and reflection, but I wonder y pple have taking it to anoda level. Eg. Instead of being happy ,I sometimes feel sad cos evry thing seem to take a diff look, price of Goods, fuel, transport, etc. The youth do somany tins all in the name of xmass. I pray God to touch our various hearts for us to know the true meanin of xmass. Peace to men of Goodwill. Happy xmass in advance. Word#
ReplyDeleteThis celebration desperation is occasioned by our societal value system. The seemingly successful are respected and worshipped while the strugglers are despised and ostracized. Until societal values are reevaluated upwards towards love, goodness and other positive attributes, the desperation will abound and multiply. A good home with the fear of God would go a long way in correcting this ills. As is said, charity begins at home. Happy Xmas in advance bondedhome.
ReplyDeletelets tell ourselves the truth, we like to show off, how can you explain that people steal just to impress others? the homes have collapsed. nice one here.
ReplyDeletePower
Father xmas with a snipper? this looks funny but its the depth at which a mans heart is wicked. this doesnt look like a pose to me. wow. We should be realy careful.
ReplyDeleteI dont have any problem with showing off y our wealth in gratitude provided you can afford it and not make others feel very bad. like the blogger said, dont rub it on them
ReplyDeleteHMMMM. THIS CHRISTMAS GO NENE...
ReplyDeleteChristmas is a time we should reflect on the birth of Jesus and why he was born. nothing more. all the other ceremony is being dramatic. human drama. shikena
ReplyDeleteEven people who stole from others from the beginning of the year to that date would still come home and display how successfull they have been. their conscience is simply dead. The society promotes these ills too. there is an unspoken expectation that requrie of you during this period. its just like when they expact an ex governor to have enriched himself while on the seat. most people who go all the way to even do more than they can actually afford are the fake people tht would rather dance to the voice of the society than the streght of their pockets.
ReplyDeleteMerry xmas all, pls stay safe. watch you back always. dont be carried away in the euphoria
ReplyDeletenice one bondedhome
ReplyDeletePeople should just cut their coat accoriding to their sizes. dont do more than yourself.
ReplyDeleteIts unfortunate how things have become. Nowadays during Xmas, onw is more security conscious than any other time. Its annoying.
ReplyDeletechristmas is coming mama buy shoe for me,i need to show off

ReplyDeletethank GOD for ATM of and thank God for his faithfulness, people would have been recording massive loss if people still travels with cash
ReplyDeletei totally agree, being safety conscious is highly important this season of celebration, keep your home doors locked, hold on to your handbags properly, above all God is the master protector
ReplyDeletehmmmm, just 2days ago 4 teenage boys tried breaking into a womans shop, luck ran out of them one day, they got caught and when asked why they ventured into breaking of peoples shop, they said theyare trying to arrange for christmas
ReplyDeleteit is well
ReplyDeletethank you bondbetter, you are doing a great job, security in this season is highly essential

ReplyDelete@ rauf you are an imbecile, stupid bokoharam member, show your face i will steal you first

ReplyDeletetochi
why are people breeders of bad things now, Rauf you don't have to mention tribe, its a general thing that happens everywhere irrespective of your locality by any tribe
ReplyDeleteCelebration desperation is obviously the killer of celebration joy..
ReplyDeleteMaybe the desperate desire to celebrate go to the village at the end of every year , encourages the act of showing off, even if the show offs have to do bad things to show off!
ReplyDeleteShowing off is in order as long you really want to thank God sincerely
ReplyDeleteXmas is a time to be grateful to God for a fruitful year and of course Big Spending
ReplyDeleteBondedhome.nice one. Kp it up. Nice topics here. Real issues not fake gossips.
ReplyDeleteSome people go out of the way to impress their neighbors. Its all vanity. Just ensure that what you are celebrating is actually the birth of Jesus nd nothn else matters
