VACANCIES FOR SEVERAL POSITIONS: Deadline 8th February, 2014

When are we going to stop clicking these jobs sites? Will that day ever come? Clicking them may not be the exact problem, what infuriates is the helpless dependence that the applicant puts on the "submit" key viz a viz the painful fact that most of these sites are mere scams and NEVER get to make recruitment possible for any applicant.

But what is expected of a graduate apart from getting a job? Checking job sites is in the right direction you might say. Statistically, how many graduates have got jobs from these media?
You can ask around, how many got online jobs...It would be an understatement to say there are no jobs out there or else, how do you reconcile that people qualified with Doctorate Degrees applied to be drivers in Dangote's firm recently, how do we cope with some private schools charging as high as 650k for a session, only for their graduates to end up "clicking" job sites too.
Is it not abnormal to find people working outside their disciplines? Engineers as Salesmen or bankers, pharmacists in call centers  zoologists in banks, geologists in sales departments, lawyers as customer care agents and so on. The list is endless.. the popular saying right now is that Nigerian graduates are unemployable; sad as this sounds, it might be true. As most graduates have only studied to pass courses, they have learnt nothing about Character.  Connoting, i mean every other method of survival apart from "ink on paper".

Let us compare again...how many graduates with white collar jobs actually make more money than the roadside mechanic or the fashion designer down the street or even the bus driver on the high way?.

These days, academic success no longer guarantee financial success. What then guarantees success? Isnt it high time we channeled our skills into VOCATIONAL practises?. Those things that come to you naturally, things you are really interested in, those abilities you exhibit without stress, skills that you posses more than many people around you. Everyone sure has one like this. If you have not located yours and you think its too late to find it, then create your own business no matter how small. The only way to start is to start.
Your formal education should be harnessed into making your vocational abilities a world class brand. Permit me to mention some popular names who have made wealth following their talents not their formal education.. A few among others are Late Sir Fatai Rolling Dollar, Late Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Timaya, John Mikel, Otunba K1 Alabi Pasuma, Tuface Innocent Idibia, Tara Durotoye, MUDI fashion, Ara, the lady Talking Drummer and even PSquare, who graduated from UniAbuja...so many others that you know. It may be in sports, music, arts and crafts, agriculture, business or any creative venture. Take a step now and start something.

My dear reader, this is the job i advertised. The first step of being your own boss is to START STARTING.

Questions to consider..
Is formal education a right or a privilege?
Does formal education guarantee financial success?
Formal Education: Only way to financial success?
In Nigeria today, how relevant are certificates?

The floor is now open

We need education more than any other. We need †̥ make education a lucrative business. Vocational development is important but we should try á mix. Like incorporación iñto our educational sector. I'm thinkn of what we can do for nigeria and not what i can do †̥ solve my inmediate problem.

Why will people keep on saying some nigerian graduates are unemployable? We have to ask ourself what is the figure of unemployment in Nigeria? And also what is the population of Nigeria?. Well said Nigerian graduates should look out for a vocational skills and make fortune out of it. Simmy d Style

In fairness to myself,Ii I could turn back the hands of time I would withdraw all the cash used for my Education, take a little part out of and pay to learn a trade or even an handiwork,by now I won't have to still be carry papers about looking fro a white colar job from people not as learned as I am,but by the virtue of inherited property from an illiterate father or semi-literate father who did something with his hand.

  6. Formal education alone cannot guarantee financial success,we were told to study hard, get good grades and a good job would follow, but for many of us with very good grades it didn't end up that way. Those with parents and relative in well placed positions were lucky while quite a lot wasn't. Reacting to what Amaechi wrote above,I would do the same if I could turn back the arms of time,I would use that money to buy equipments for my the trade I learnt immediately after youth corp. Yes,I went ahead to learn a trade after youth corp because I knew I did not know any other thing expect Educational Management/Economics I studied in school, the content of our present education needs to be overhauled, engineering students need functioning laboratories, medical students need to see and use latest medical equipments, majority of them confess that they only see these equipments in text books, vocational education as well as creatives needs to be included into our educational system. Well,I've made up my mind,my unborn children will be better than me,they'll grow up learning various trades, their creative talents and abilities will be well nutured. If our educational system isn't good enough,we need to help fill the gaps in our homes, making sure that the younger generation don't depend soley on white collar jobs.

Certificate is now a mere paper, nobody acknowledges it except it is a man know Man,this country has totally lost its standard for Education,I have 2 degrees but all is a waste,I have applied for jobs severaly all to know avail, they accept people into schools to release them into the market and make them nuisance, its a pity, this write-up made me shed tears and for once I asked myself when I would actually stop clicking Vacancy sites knowing fully well the 90% of this sites are scam

2weeks ago I was oportuned to witness a scene of a supposed celebrity who was caught taking a one way road,he seriously harassed this police officer and even slapped him for attempting to stop him, after series of calls by the celebrity, the police man was all apologetic, pleading to save his job,my point is this,if it was a graduate who committed this crime he would have been rotting away behind bars without fair hearing,If I had my way and turn back the hands of time like ameachi said,I would do a lot of things the other way round, certificate doesn't help, you can imagine a gateman of one of the companies I went pushing me because I wanted to submit my C.V

Let no one tell me that Education is a right. if it is a right, how come it is one of the most abandoned sectors in the country? ASUU strike, Adamant government and docile students. after dem go say Nigerian graduates are unemployable? if you have the opportunity ti go to school and be educated, see it as a means to an end. as an opportunity granted to you, not a right...

Hmmm its a serious one here. Unemployment is a time bomb awaiting to blow up..thats what someone said. The painful part is that graduates just go to job sites and assume that the job would come knocking, forgetting the man know man syndrome, the favouritism and nepotism part of our recruitment process here.. While they pay money to get on the internet, upload their cv'S , THE REAL OWNERS OF THE JOB THEY ARE APPLYING FOR WOULD ALREADY KNOW THAT THE THE JOB IS HIS. Instead of waiting endlessly and helplessly, people should diversify.. look inwards and grow those skills in them that can also fetch them money.. Its not a big deal to say you are a graduate anyomore . Its a big deal to say.. the guy is doing well.

This era has taught me a very big lesson. Acada is not enough. Acada is okay but it has to be merged in equal proportion with a skill, a craft,a nutured abilty so that when certificates are failing, your skills will bail you out.

Anyone who is still depending on "submit" botton as the blogger called it, is hoodwinking his/herself. Majority of those who have jobs would do anything to even get out of the jobs. They claim they are being enslaved. While it is ideal to work with your hard earned certifecate, it is wide also that you develpee that skill that you got without a certifecate. The God-given skill that can provide for all ur needs. I am a qualified teacher and im also into herbal medicine.

i know many guys who have gone after their dreams and at first when they continued with it and we kept on going to school, it looked like they were set for doom. to be precise, i had a friend who dropped out of school and started doing this bus conductor job, it was awful and shameful back then in secondary school days. but he said he liked it, he didnt distant himself from us because of that, we were te ones trying to run away from him. Well to cut the long story short he proceeded.and guess what m when i was a coprer in Abuja, he housed me, fed me and even told me if i wanted to work in his transport company as manager i can but the manager is a tout, ishld be careful of him. HE HAS A TRANSPORT COMPANY NOW, EVEN THOUGH ITS STILL GROWING, HE WAS FAR FAR FAR MORE PROSPEROUS THAN A BLOODY CORPER LIKE ME. I learnt from him that if one follows his dream, be certain.. you ll surely make it big, it may tarry but it owuld surely break through.

  45. Literacy without skills (people, technical or vocational) is of little value. Illiteracy without skills is a tout! Literacy with skills isn't a guarantee for success if it doesn't posses character. Illiteracy with skills can only promote the individual as far as character can take him. Education is a formal way for the individual to construct his own character and adapt it to his skills. Thus, the literate individual can choose to be rude or polite, lax or driven, slack or passionate, lazy or smart, fail or succeed. Education gives you the right to make a choice. It is a plus. Its a circle as long as parents don't pay attention to their growing kids, the kids become irresponsible and eventually become clubbers(irresponsible) then they would keep sorting and since the lecturers aint payed properly by the gorvernment sorting will continue from generation to generation,AMEN

Education is great, the four walls is very great, but truthfully, sometimes, one was better unlettered. For instance, i am from a polygamous home and my step brothers all as we were made to believe were not bright enough to pass exams so they dropped out and went into glass fittings. they learnt it and did freedom, which we all attended, i did attend as a corper, funny enough they still envied me as a graduate. Without any hard feelings, as i write this moment, my elder step brother is building his own house in Mowe, while i am still purchasing Tuesday Tuesday guardian in search of another job. its shameful. we cant just sit back and leave everything to chance.
