Watch your Ego, It can become a Killer

“I have done everything to pacify him, I have told him how sorry I am, I have almost cried out my eyes, I have lost sleep and I no longer have an idea what peace means or stands for, Sir, that is why I have come to you right here in your office, not to come and report my husband but to seek your assistance in helping me plead with him… my husband and I have not been in talking terms since four months sir… if I say a word to him, he doesn’t respond, when I serve his meal, he doesn’t eat, when I get in bed, he gets out” She breaks down in tears… these are the agonizing words of a frustrated Esther to her husband’s boss. Jude is her husband on whom all these allegations are being made.

Baffled, windswept and eager to help in his own way, Oga commandeered Jude into his office and to his greatest surprise, Jude was raved at the sight of his wife…”what are you doing here, you this woman? Wont you just leave me alone?” he reached for a folder filled with documents and splashed it on her…and walked away….it was a mean encounter. Jude’s boss got the dumbness of his life…all he managed to say was “Jude, do you realize this might cost you your job,? Jude come back here, come back here…”Madam, just go home, I will talk to him, everything would be okay. He assured. Jude came after she had left to tell his Boss that he was no longer angry but needed her to suffer a bit so that she would learn her lessons squarely…a position his boss warned against.

How they got here…

Approximately four months ago, Jude returned from work with a cantankerous face, claiming he just had a hot argument with his boss over salaries. He told Esther how his boss had announced to them that despite their hard work, salaries would not be paid for that month owing to dwindling sales and perhaps the next few months would not be paid as well if sales don’t look up. He also told her how he cannot just walk away from a job he has put in so much and with great prospects ahead of him…Esther calmly assured him how that wouldn’t be a problem, the family can run on her own income until his company pays them up fully…”please cheer up my darling, is that why you are looking so angry and hungry?”…

In three months really, Jude did not finance the home. Esther stood up to it as she promised, though painstakingly, but love covers all and marriage is for better for worse…she had to do extra hours at work and even took a loan from her colleague to cater for the home…this phase had just ended when one day, Esther changed her bag and did not remove the keys to her shelf at the office and her inhaler…she had to go back home to get those items. As she entered the house, she heard her hubby’s phone ringing…”today is World Couples forget day” she said to herself, reached for the phone, she didn’t pick the call, took it and thought of how to reach her husband to meet her up or something…when a text message dropped, innocently, she opened it. It read

“Judeyy, you are still as foolish as you were back then, thinking you can still get in between my laps, well,thank you for the money, I never had any surgery, I was never sick. I just needed to get something out of you for dumping me the way you did. Don’t bother trying to reach me, I am far away as you can see from the number” mmmmuah mmmuah”    

Esther drove straight to Jude’s office, threw the phone at him, and in the heat of things, slapped him.

Where they are now…

Esther is dead

The shame was so much for both of them especially Jude. While being egoistic and feeling correct about him spending his money any how he wanted, he decided to make his wife suffer a bit before accepting her apologies for slapping him and now coming to his office for further drama. She has been begging for the sake of her marriage, keeping all blames aside, Jude decides at this point to put his feet on the ground on making decisions unilaterally and no matter what he must have done, his wife should not raise her hand at him…

How Esther Died

With the four-month lasting apologies ongoing, the bright loving Esther have become a shadow of herself, once you see her, you see her troubles…she has become obviously sad…on this very day she visited Jude’s office for further apologies…on her way back home, as she drove and cried, she had an attack…an asthmatic attack…she reached for her phone and started calling Jude…Jude would not pick any call coming from her, not especially on a day like that one. He sat there staring at the phone…She called and called and called and called…until she managed to drive her car into the garage…she tried to type a message…”my inhaler pls” she couldn’t send it before the cold hands of death caught up with her… Curiously, about an hour later, Jude decides to check his wife, at least she can still come in and sleep…. She was gone.
